Why Preventative Maintenance Matters

The Danger of Loose Prongs

Everyday wear, especially on hands, subjects rings to thousands of tiny impacts. Over time, the gold or platinum prongs holding your diamond will wear thin or bend. If one prong bends slightly, the diamond becomes loose. If two bend, the diamond falls out entirely. Getting a jeweler to check your prongs every 6 months ensures they can tighten or "re-tip" them before you lose a stone.

Why White Gold Turns Yellow

White gold is naturally a pale yellow color. To make it bright white, jewelers plate it with Rhodium. The friction from your fingers rubbing against the ring slowly wears this plating off, revealing the yellowish gold underneath. This is completely normal and can be fixed with a "rhodium dip" every 12 to 18 months.

The Golden Rule for Pearls

Pearls are organic and highly porous. They should be the "last thing you put on, and the first thing you take off." Hairspray, perfume, and cosmetics will permanently dull their luster. Never clean them with ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemicals; just wipe them with a damp, soft cloth.
